On November 4, members of Women on Boards Ukraine had the privilege of meeting with H.E. Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, for a discussion on: “Leadership, Governance, and the Role of Women in Driving Social Change: Ukrainian–Japanese Perspectives.”

The conversation focused on the importance of inclusive leadership, governance models that respond to global and national challenges, and the role of women in strengthening institutional resilience and shaping long-term economic development.

The Ambassador highlighted that Japan’s demographic landscape makes the strengthening of women’s leadership not only a matter of equality, but a strategic economic priority.

In Ukraine, similar dynamics are shaped by wartime realities — women are increasingly stepping into leadership roles across security, defense, business, and public governance. Ensuring inclusive leadership is essential for resilience and long-term recovery.

We also discussed opportunities to expand Ukrainian–Japanese cooperation in reconstruction, energy, infrastructure, and technology — emphasizing the importance of long-term partnership and shared commitment to sustainable development.
