Female board quotas ‘improve employment practices’
Did you know that quotas for women on boards can actually improve employment practices? Research from France suggests just that.
Despite initial opposition, a study found that shareholder support for female candidates increased after quotas were introduced. This challenges the notion that boards were already "optimally configured" before quotas.
"Our analysis does not support boards being optimally configured pre-quota. Instead, we find a post-quota increase in shareholder support for female candidates," the researchers noted.
Quotas compel firms to reassess their hiring practices, valuing characteristics like prior board experience and education from prestigious institutions equally for both genders.
This underscores the need for firms to adapt their recruitment strategies and rethink qualifications for boardroom access. It's time for change.
